A 200 year old, traditional Dutch house was the setting for this unique and challenging project. The sum of the brief included preserving and restoring the essence of the existing house – both indoors and externally – rather than demolishing a historical built work. The project also included the adaptation of the large, beach-side site into operating holiday units with caretaker facilities, whilst still maintaining a primary residence for the occupants. Through calculated thought, the idea for contemporary ‘plug-in’ architecture on either side of the historical house was conceived. Through the contrast of ultra-modern construction with the existing Kabok home a sense of separation was achieved between two eras, ensuring the continuation of the bygone home whilst ensuring state of the art comfort for guests at the Beach Villa. This project is entering its planning stage with the local council.
